Students were introduced to rhythmic patterns including Soko, Bomba, Orisha/Afro-Cuban Variations, and  Jazz Swing.  African dance terminology such as breaks, rhythms, and traditional and contemporary African dance vocabulary were also taught throughout the program. By the end of the residency, students demonstrated an understanding of performance quality, weight shifts, and were able improvise movement through using variation to empower their creative expression of the traditional dance aesthetic.
